With so many "self-help" books out there how do you know which ones to read? It can get a little overwhelming especially when so many of us are on a spiritual journey looking for a transformation and enlightenment. During theHay House Online Writer's Workshop, Reid Tracy, the CEO of Hay House, talked about how back in the day these types of books were put in the "Occult" section at Waldon Bookstores. It's just beautiful to see how far we have come.
I have been reading a lot of books lately trying to see where my book, "Came to Believe" will fit in on the spiritual self-help shelf when it's published. I have found that the best spiritual books I have read have been from recommendations. So, I thought I would share my top four books that opened my eyes to love and changed me into a more grounded and self-accepted light worker.
Doreen Virtue is my first spiritual teacher. I identified with her through her angel cards, which I now use daily for myself or clients. When I saw her live and took theAngel Card Reader Certification Course,I was touched by her loving energy. When I read Assertiveness for Earth Angels, I finally felt someone was telling me that it is okay to say no and not feel bad about it. In fact, Doreen taught me to feel good about taking care of myself and standing up for myself. Growing up in a home of alcoholism, I learned to put everyone else's needs in front of my own. This book helped me to set loving boundaries while keeping my inner peace. The key is to do everything with love. "You are indeed an Earth angel sent here by God to perform miraculous deeds of love and sharing" -Doreen Virtue
This book was recommended to me by a friend of mine. Anatomy of the Spirit introduced me to the chakras and told me that I held the power over my healing. I didn't realize that my thinking, beliefs and attitude was causing my illness. Caroline Myss showed me that I must give up the need to know why things happen as they do. She says, "Giving up the need to know why something has happened to you will definitely count among the most rigorous personal challenges of your life." In this book, she has blended Hinduism, Christianity, and Kabbalah to discuss the seven stages of physical and spiritual power that one must pass to reach spiritual enlightenment.
"Be the peace you are seeking from others. If peace is missing in your relationships with your family, it means that you have a place within you that's occupied by nonpeace." Through Wayne, I learned that all the good I want to receive in my life and to make my dreams come true, I must invite love in. If I connect to the source of love at all times, I will receive what I manifest. I learned in The Power of Intention that for me to heal I needed to raise my vibrational energy to match my intentions. I need to let go, let God and surrender. I must have an attitude of gratitude to attract my desires. If I can do all this, I can put
my ego in check and let spirit take over. If I change the way I look at things, the things I look at change.
May Cause Miracles-Gabrielle Bernstein I am currently reading this book, and honestly, I am surprised I have kept up with the daily meditations and exercises. I love them. Gabby first came into my life while I was taking theHay House Online Writer's Course. The way she interacted with an audience member was genuine and authentic. I googled 'Gabrielle Bernstein' and the book Spirit Junkiecame up, so I read it. After attending the Spirit Junkie Masterclass, I decided to dive into May Cause Miracles, a 6-week daily meditation practice to unleash the miracles! I am currently on day 14, and I already see a shift in my perception. Because of these shifts in my thinking, I have been able to loosen the grip on my fear, forgive myself, fall into gratitude and be the happiest person I know. "In every situation, no matter how horrifying it may be, we have a choice: the choice to see love instead of fear." -Gabrielle Bernstein.
My hope for you is that at least one of these books touches you the way it did me. I am forever changed because of the words written by these very different, but equally loving and spiritual light workers. The common theme in all these books is to always fall back on love and look within yourself to see how your thinking is creating your reality. Go to your favorite beach, park or lake and ground yourself in our beautiful nature and open up a book. Even if it's not one of these books I recommended, just any book that will awaken and enlighten you.
